Restoration of St. Marys Church in East Bay, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Under the supervision of restoration specialist Vitek J Kruta of Renova Studios and Painted Illusions, Sydney based business specialized in decorative painting, over 130 volunteers parishioners were restoring their second oldest wooden church in Atlantic Canada. After making thirty different probes in several locations of the church interior, five layers of paint were uncovered, the last of which dated back to 1890 and reveled the original stencil designs, so typical for the era.  A drawing based on the findings, and colors were shown to the parishioners, who made the decision to go ahead with the project. Vitek J Kruta trained the volunteers in basic painting, stenciling, marbling and gold leafing techniques and guided them through out the restoration process. Mr. Kruta came to Cape Breton under the sponsorship of

The age of volunteers ranged from six to ninety years and every one contributed greatly to the successful project.
